Rachael Steimnitz is a public health professional with over 15 years of experience in programming and leadership across mental health, patient care, and community outreach. She currently serves as the Director of Workplace Mental Health at the National Alliance on Mental Illness-New York City (NAMI-NYC), where she oversees the workplace mental health training and consulting division. In this role, Rachael has partnered with over 60 employers to enhance workplace mental health and has developed more than 10 workplace training programs. She also created the NAMI-NYC Workplace Mental Health Collaborative, an innovative initiative uniting over 20 employers from various industries, all dedicated to reducing stigma around mental health challenges by publicly acknowledging and supporting the importance of mental health in the workplace.

Prior to her current role, Rachael was the Senior Program Manager at the NYC Mayor’s Office of Community Mental Health. She developed and launched Thrive in Your Workplace, a public-private partnership that helps employers improve employee mental health using a public health approach. This initiative was recognized with a Population Health Summit Award for its impactful work on addressing employee burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rachael also brings in-depth public sector experience from her time working for the City and State of New York, where she focused on supporting individuals living with mental illness. At NYC Health + Hospitals, she led the first system-wide integration of palliative care into primary care sites across 17 facilities and community partners. Additionally, she managed the MyPSYCKES project at the New York State Office of Mental Health, a peer-led initiative that facilitates shared decision-making and patient-reported outcomes through a web-based application used in outpatient settings.

Rachael holds a Master’s in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.
